Well, how 'bout that.

I'm currently reading The Inferno, the first part of Dante's The Divine Comedy.

Hell has a vestibule.

Isn't that nice?

Two Things

These are 2 things I've determined:

1. Hipsters are like the Hippies of my generation, but they aren't revolutionary in any way. However, they can be just as dirty.
2. When camping, everyone's a hick. Even you.

Velkommen til Danmark.

Greetings from Copenhagen!
Left Detroit, Michigan at 5:30 (ish) on Sunday the 17th, got here Monday at 2:40 (ish). I had a layover in New York at JFK, my gates were switched and my plane was delayed. We were supposed to leave at 10:10 pm, we left at 1:15 am :)
Good experience for my first time traveling completely by myself out of the country. I made friends in the airport and on the plane though.
And I finally got here!
What am I doing here you ask? (Well, I don't actually know if anyone's asking that because I don't think anyone reads this.) I had an exchange student during the 2009-2010 school year and she invited me to her home this summer. It's wonderful, this place is quintessential Europe, but right now it's very rainy and my host is at work. I'm not complaining! Tuesday we walked around downtown Copenhagen, Wednesday we went to Sweden and stayed at her Aunt's cottage. Yesterday we went to a lovely mall, and today I get to relax. I have summer reading to do, stop distracting me.

Camera Frenzy

So I have a blog. I blog about nothing, really. Let's face it. No one in the world particularly cares about the life of a 17-year-old in the mid-west.
One of the main reasons I made a blog though, was to post photos. I wanted another site to put my photos on.
I love photography.
Now before you get all judgy-judge, I'm not just another hipster teenager with a spiffy camera (although it is pretty spiffy), that her parents bought for her (they didn't), who takes photos of her friends (but I do do that sometimes). I'm almost positive that I want a career in photography. I've been seriously interested in it since about the age of 12. When I was 13 I got my own digital camera for my Bat Mitzvah. Before that I used my brother's and before that I used the family camera. My first camera was an Olympus SP510UZ. It's not too shabby and I think it was a good choice for someone of my age at the time. Of course my pictures weren't amazing, although some of them were surprisingly good, I got a DeviantART and started posting on the internet.
Olympus SP510UZ
Even before the age of 12 I was interested in photography. I think it was JUST before digital cameras, so...early 2000's maybe? Or like, when film cameras were kind of digital. They used film, but the zoom was electronic. Hopefully someone knows what I'm talking about. Anyway, I don't know how old I was, 7 or 8, but I decided that I would take our camera everywhere and just take pictures of everything. I think that lasted a day. My mom and I were out and about and I took pictures of stuff. About a year or two ago I found a roll of film in my room that needed to be developed. So I took it to CVS and when I got it back I realized that the photos were the ones I took that day. They were in black and white and they were actually pretty good. I'm proud of my 8-year-old self.
Pentax K20D
I currently use a Pentax K20D. IT IS MY CHILD. I got it from my dad's friend, who happens to be a professional photographer. He's very good, does wildlife, check him out :Wild Light.
Anyway, he was selling the Pentax because he was getting a newer model and I snatched it. I got it for a lot cheaper than if I were to buy it new, even though it was still relatively expensive, but I paid for it all. He gave me a lot of extras (like a bajillion manuals), except I don't have a case. This can be very cumbersome.
I have 9 cameras altogether. 4 of which I actually use/work: Pentax K20D, Olympus SP510UZ, Pentax 35 mm, and Lomography Fisheye 35 mm. 3 of them probably work, one of those was my grandfather's: a Nikon EM. It's decently old and probably works, but it should be cleaned and I don't have a manual. The next 2 of this group of 3 I got from my uncle, one is a Canon G-3 QL. He thinks he got it in East Germany. And the other is a Zenit (or Zenith) 12 that he bought in Russia when it was still the Soviet Union. The last two cameras I own are little garage sale finds that my dad picked up for me. He got them both for $5. One is a Brownie Holiday camera and the other is a Vagabond 120, both from the 50's I think. I'm not sure they work and I only figured out how to open one of them.
So there's my story. I post my photos on facebook, deviantART, and flickr and hopefully here too! I'll get up photos of my other camera's at some point, but now I should go do homework.

Priorities

So everyone knows about the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Even the penguins in Antarctica know about it, I mean come on.
Anyway I watched the news for a hop, skip, and a jump yesterday because I don't usually watch it and the anchors were talking about how the earthquake spread waves across the ocean and there were 6-8 foot waves hitting part of the coast of California. The waves were causing damage to harbors and boats. Was anyone dying? No. But the boats! How. Tragic. A woman was being interviewed and she was unnecessarily emotional, saying how scary it was and she just can't even talk about it right now! People were standing on docks trying to make sure their boats weren't destroyed! It was awful, nothing compared to the cities being FLATTENED in Japan and the 8.8 earthquake that caused the cooling system of a nuclear power plant to break which could result in a meltdown and the release of radiation. Some boats and docks being damaged is more frightening than a whole passenger train disappearing under the tsunami. It really deserves news coverage, because these people don't live on harbors in California and probably aren't rich enough to buy another boat or make repairs to their damaged one.
Gosh. How awful is that.

Solitaire Queen

I'm sitting in school right now.
Don't yell at me, I'm in my joke of a computers class. On the agenda today: NOTHING. This class is mind-numbing. When we do have assignments, my friends and I get done a half hour early while the teacher is only on the fourth step. What do we do when we're done? Play solitaire.
I'm getting really good at it.
Not just normal solitaire, but spider solitaire too. After a while it does get boring though, and I can't stare at a computer screen any longer, so I do homework for another class. It's a very nice study hall.
Today was a makeup day, so of course I have nothing to do. I was king of productive though, I went through the college folder in my email and got rid of the unnecessary stuff, which was a lot. Still ten minutes left of class and it's only first hour.
Here's a random fact:
Sometimes, coke-a-cola is used to clean up blood spills on the highway.

And the winner is...

Temporomandibular joint disorder!
Say that 5 times fast.
It's causing neck pain too. Urgh.

Who doesn't like to complain?

It started with my right knee.
It would start to hurt if I was on it for a while, a knee brace helped. Went to the orthopedic surgeon, he said it was: *insert two big medical terms here* knee syndrome, sometimes it shows up in active teenage girls.
Treatment: Knee exercises and aleve.
Next it was my right foot, it hurt to walk sometimes and hurt when I went to bed.
Diagnosis: I pronate (a.k.a. walk on the insides of my feet).
Treatment: Adding more support to the shoe inserts I already owned.
Huzzah.
Now, though: the left side of my jaw. It started when one night a couple weeks ago. I forgot to wear my retainers. IT WAS ONE NIGHT. In the morning I couldn't open my mouth all the way, then my jaw would pop while I ate breakfast, but it would go away. Unfortunately it's gotten worse and this morning it hasn't gone away. Biting into toast caused a lot of pain.
I'll be calling the dentist tomorrow.
